Government urged to take zero-tolerance approach to drink-driving

The Government is being urged to look again at the latest recommendations on drink and drug driving before deciding to stick with the current limit.
Sources close to Transport Secretary Phillip Hammond have said that he is sceptical about cutting the drink-drive limit following the publication of Sir Peter North's report on drink and drug driving.
In response, Ellen Booth, Brake's campaigns officer, said: 'We urge the Government to look at the research on lowering the drink-drive limit when considering how to respond to the North Report. The evidence is that reducing the drink-drive limit would save lives, reducing the social and economic burden of drink-drive casualties. Research shows that even a small amount of alcohol reduce drivers ability to react quickly and safely to hazards so we are calling on the Government to take a zero-tolerance approach to the drink-driving limit.'
